Qortni In the Ice House. Recognize.
*Laffs* Wow, how homie of me... Ahem... Anyhow...
I was going to stay home and be all anti-social-girl last nite because my original plans fell-thru (and I didn't much feel like doing anything else), but Melissa dragged me out. Since she can't get out too often, and we didn't get to hang New Year's Eve, I accepted her prying me out of my apartment - for her sake...
There was a "winter metal fest" at the Ice House (*shudder in repulsion*) in Binghamton, a friend's band was playing, there were 10 bands lined up, and it's been a while since we've seen a metal show...
As it turns out, I missed my friend's band because the show started way before Melissa even called me, and we stalled for quite some time before even leaving my place (I wasn't in a hurry to leave, and she and I had catching up to do anyway.)
The music blew chunks. The bands we did manage to catch were horrid. You'd think that the better bands would play toward the end of the nite, but this was definitely not the case. Whoever lined up the bands' stage time is obviously dyslexic. Or retarded.
(Lame. 1.)
Ok, so that's my mini-rant. That was the bad part (which unfortunately was the main part).
The good part...
Melissa and I saw some friends who we haven't seen in a while, so we all talk-yelled with each other and ignored the bands. Some people who I'd been in a Death Metal group with showed up, and we all hung out most of the night. I was re-invited to play guitar with them sometime - apparently there's been a line-up change - which is the only way I'd ever accept the offer...
We'll see...
At one point someone came up to me and gasped, "Hey! You're the girl from Sirius Rising! Qortni, right?!"
It was interesting, and caught me way off guard to be recognized by my music. I've never ever played shows with Sirius Rising... So far everything's been pretty strictly internet-based. We talked music for a moment, and they requested my demo before they were on their way...
Yay!
Before the night ended, the bands were so shitty, the sound people let Matt and Neil-the-Viking (who were in said Death Metal group) get up and do some improv shreddin'. Tho they were both, by this hour, quite inebriated - they still put the previous bands to shame (at least the ones Melissa and I saw).
Two dudes.
Last minute.
And wasted.
I egged-on Matt to play his blast beats - which are quite impressive. He was able to pull it off briefly, but was too tanked - which I knew - and the whole reason I ribbed him. Laffing and shaking his head, you could see his self-criticism:
"I'm too drunk for this. I suck."
Which is exactly what he said, word-for-word when he got off stage.
Funny stuff...
When I got home, I found out that my music got some air-play on a radio station in the Ithaca area!
Double yay!
All-in-all, the nite turned out to be ok, but had I known the bands would be so crappy, I would have opted to gather up some friends and hang in at someone's house...
