The Kindness of Strangers...
Wow, it's kinda weird to not have posted here for a while...
I suppose "a while" is relative, but it just feels odd.
Anyhow!
After a particularly stressful - but still rather enjoyable and interesting weekend - I went to The Lost Dog Cafe' for dinner with a friend. I love that place, by the way. It's a coffee house, but lunch and dinner is served also. It's very spacious, luciously decorated, dim...
Oops, getting off track slightly...
Dinner was delish - steak, shrimp, potatoes, broccoli - my fav!
As I was leaving the coffee house, I passed by an older woman on the sidewalk who stopped me to ask if one could just sit and have a cup of coffe or tea without ordering dinner. I told her yes, absolutely, with a big friendly smile. She thanked me... I continued on, pulling out my keys, heading to my car...
When I got home, I changed into my jammies, talked to mum on the phone a little, and jumped in bed to continue reading "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown. (Since the pope died, I decided to re-read the book - it seemed like quite the appropriate time!)
Not too long after settling in with my book, I heard a quiet knock on my door. It sounded rather uncertain, and like no famillar knock - so I didn't answer right away... The knock came again, so I got up and made my way to the door...
I asked who it was without opening, as I always do...
"Qortni?" a woman's voice said.
I opened the door - and it was the woman who had stopped me on the sidewalk! For a moment I was confused, then she handed something to me, and I looked down at it.
"I think you must have dropped this, I found it on the sidewalk when I came out of the restaurant where we spoke."
It was my driver's licence and a folded dollar bill.
I was quite surprised, to say the least, and thanked her a million times. I could have totally hugged her, I swear! I was near-speechless. My place is a 15 minute drive from the coffee house - in good traffic. I was amazed...
What a long way a little kindness goes!
And altho thru the door I'd asked who it was, she never did tell me her name...

Hmmm... such a fortuitous encounter indeed! Better the angel than the demon with such a document my dear Qortni.
I am hoping you will share your story.
